a grave mistake
CASE FILE #014
CASE FILE: A GRAVE MISTAKE
Mission Log
Duck-9 was dispatched to a local cemetery following reports of a potentially permanent clerical error.
Considering the medium involved, corrections were expected to be difficult.
The Discovery
At first, nothing appeared unusual.
Quiet cemetery. Weathered stones. Respectful atmosphere.
Then Duck-9 found it:
REST IN PEECE.
One extra “E.”
Carved in stone.
Forever.
The Investigation
Duck-9 examined the inscription, checked his notes, adjusted his glasses, and examined it again.
The findings remained unchanged.
Someone had made a typo on a headstone.
Unfortunately, there is no backspace key for granite.
Feathered Thought
Duck-9 considered the evidence carefully.
The permanence.
The craftsmanship.
The complete absence of spellcheck.
There was really only one conclusion.
What do you call a typo on a headstone?
A grave mistake.
Final Note
The investigation has been closed.
The typo has not.
CASE STATUS: Permanently filed.
ERROR STATUS: Set in stone.
