CASE FILE: THE SLEEPING PHOTO

CASE FILE #009

CASE FILE: THE SLEEPING PHOTO

MISSION LOG

At approximately 2:37 A.M., I discovered a photograph on my phone.

Normally, this would not qualify as an investigation.

There was one problem.

The photograph was of me sleeping.

I live alone.

THE DISCOVERY

I studied the photo carefully.

It wasn't a screenshot. It wasn't an accidental selfie. And judging by the angle, the picture had been taken from several feet away.

While I was very clearly asleep.

I checked the timestamp.

2:37 A.M.

I checked my memory.

Nothing.

I checked whether I suddenly had a roommate.

Still no.

THE INVESTIGATION

Doors locked.

Windows locked.

No signs of forced entry.

I checked the closet.

Clear.

I checked under the bed.

Clear.

I checked the room again, mostly because apparently I enjoy making bad situations worse.

Nothing.

Every reasonable explanation had now been eliminated.

Unfortunately, that left the unreasonable ones.

FEATHERED THOUGHT

There is a fine line between being a dedicated investigative reporter and learning something you absolutely did not need to know.

That’s when I decided sleep was no longer part of the investigation.

FINAL NOTE

The photograph remains unexplained.

Every light in the house is currently on.

Coffee has been deployed.

Sleep has been postponed indefinitely.

Case status: Technically open.

Spiritually? None of my business.
